Already found your own helper?

This service is for employers who have independently identified a helper. Nation assists with documentation and processing — we do not supply the helper candidate under this service. Looking to view and interview Nation’s available transfer helpers instead? Please visit our Transfer Maid page.

What are direct hire maids?

Direct hire maids are helpers you have personally found, instead of choosing from Nation’s available biodata or transfer helper pool.

  • Found through your own referral, network or direct contact
  • May be overseas or already in Singapore
  • Employer confirms the helper directly first
  • Nation assists with documentation and compliance

Clear Service Positioning

For employers who have already found their own helper

Nation Maid Agency helps you manage the administrative, legal and coordination work required to bring your selected helper onboard.

Your helper may still be overseas, or may already be in Singapore and available to move to a new employer. In both situations, our role is to support the relevant paperwork and MOM processing — not to provide the helper candidate.

We recommend speaking directly with the helper before proceeding, especially to understand her work experience, communication ability, salary expectation and suitability for your household needs such as infant care, elderly care, cooking or housekeeping.

Simple Flow

How Direct Hire Maid Processing Works With Nation

You confirm the helper. Our consultants guide the relevant paperwork and coordination based on whether she is overseas or already in Singapore.

1. You confirm your helper

Share her nationality, current location, passport readiness and contact details with our consultant.

2. Documents are reviewed

We advise on the relevant documentation requirements based on whether your independently sourced helper is overseas or already in Singapore.

3. Singapore processing begins

We assist with the relevant MOM application, insurance, security bond and supporting documents for your case.

4. Ready for the next step

Once the required processing is completed, we guide you on the remaining arrangements before your helper starts work.

What Happens Next Depends on Where Your Helper Is

The final arrangements differ for overseas direct hires and independently sourced local transfers.

Helper Is Overseas

Arrival & deployment support. After approvals and overseas arrangements are completed, we coordinate the relevant arrival steps, including travel, SIP registration where applicable, post-arrival requirements and deployment.

Helper Is Already in Singapore

Transfer completion support. Once the transfer process is completed, we guide the remaining steps, such as confirming the transfer date, relevant handover arrangements and employment commencement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions About Direct Hire Maids

Common questions from Singapore employers who have already found their own helper.

What are direct hire maids, and how is this different from a regular agency hire?

Direct hire maids are helpers you personally source through your own network — typically referrals from family, friends, a former helper or personal contact — rather than selecting from Nation’s available maid pool. The key difference is that you identify the helper yourself. Nation then assists with the relevant documentation, MOM processing and coordination.

Do I need to use an agency if I find my own helper?

Most employers prefer to engage a licensed agency because direct hire processing can involve several parties, time-sensitive documents and different requirements depending on where the helper is located. Nation helps coordinate the paperwork, MOM processing, insurance, security bond, medical arrangements and relevant overseas or local-transfer steps — so you have one consultant guiding the case instead of managing every requirement yourself.

How long does direct hire maid documentation processing take?

The timeline depends on whether your helper is overseas or already in Singapore, her nationality, document readiness, current employer consent for local transfer cases, and MOM requirements. Our consultants will provide a realistic estimate once your helper’s details are confirmed.

What overseas documents are required for a direct hire helper from Myanmar or Indonesia?

Overseas documentation requirements vary by nationality. For Myanmar helpers, this typically includes documentation processed through the relevant Myanmar overseas employment authorities, a pre-departure medical examination, and the employment contract. For Indonesian helpers, documentation is coordinated through the relevant Indonesian overseas worker placement process. Nation Maid Agency will advise on the specific requirements based on your helper’s nationality and coordinate all overseas documentation on your behalf.

What is the Settling-in Programme (SIP) and is it compulsory?

The Settling-in Programme (SIP) is a mandatory one-day orientation required by MOM for first-time foreign domestic workers arriving in Singapore. It covers workers’ rights and responsibilities, safety practices, and adapting to life in Singapore. Nation Maid Agency will assist with SIP registration where applicable.

What salary should I pay my direct hire helper?

Salary is negotiated directly between you and the helper. As a general guide, typical monthly salaries in Singapore range from SGD $520 for first-time helpers to SGD $700–$900+ for helpers with specialised experience in infant care, elderly care, cooking, or caregiving. Our consultants can advise on fair market rates based on the helper’s nationality and experience.

Can Nation help if I have independently found a helper who is already in Singapore?

Yes. When you have independently identified a helper who is currently in Singapore and available to move to a new employer, Nation can assist with the relevant documentation and MOM transfer processing. This is different from selecting a transfer helper from Nation’s available pool, and it remains subject to the current employer’s consent and MOM requirements.

Am I eligible to hire a foreign domestic worker in Singapore?

To hire an FDW in Singapore, you must be at least 21 years old, not an undischarged bankrupt, and demonstrate a stable income sufficient to support employing a domestic worker. Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents, and eligible foreigners residing in Singapore may hire an FDW subject to MOM’s eligibility criteria. Nation Maid Agency will advise on eligibility as part of the enquiry process.

What are the ongoing costs after my direct hire helper arrives?

Ongoing monthly costs include the helper’s salary, the FDW levy (standard rate or concessionary rate if eligible), food and accommodation, and any medical expenses. You must also ensure at least one rest day per week (or compensate accordingly if the day is waived by mutual agreement), and send your helper for mandatory six-monthly medical examinations as required by MOM.
